A cognitive behavioral approach is well documented in clinical research to be very effective in treating certain issues, such as depression and anxiety. This approach helps clients explore core belief systems about themselves and the world, which influences how they feel and act, thereby directly contributing to their quality of life. Many times this is a short-term therapy.

An eclectic theoretical framework is often used in treatment because it incorporates a number of human behavior and social work theories. It also acknowledges the role that the environment plays in the client’s life, thus providing a more holistic view on the problems facing that individual.
